‘Azerbaijan wants to enter the negotiations phase of Artsakh conflict’

October 12,2018 19:34

Freedom fighter, “Yelq” faction parliamentarian Sasun Mikayelyan said that the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union is a structure deprived of its authority. “Aravot” reminded Sasun Mikayelyan that the union and its members deprived themselves of authority in 1998, when they made Robert Kocharyan President of Armenia through rigging elections. “Freedom fighters alliance” council member Hovik Harutyunyan told “Aravot” about this in an interview. “The time will come for those discussions,” Sasun Mikayelyan said, adding, “When Robert Kocharyan came, there was something superficial… the Artsakh issue is what pushed him forward. He said that he would come to solve the Artsakh conflict. But it became clear that they came and did nothing for Artsakh.” We asked him if he supports Nikol Pashinyan and if he thinks that Pashinyan will solve the conflict. “How could he not? He announced it from the UN podium,” Mikayelyan said in response.

When asked how and through what means, since the primary resolution agreement are the Madrid Principles, which demand that Armenia return territories to Azerbaijan without solving Artsakh’s condition, Sasun Mikayelyan countered, “Azerbaijan hadn’t entered any phase of negotiations until now. Even someone like Aliyev’s secretary never announced that they’re going to solve the Artsakh conflict. When the negotiations phase begins, that’s when discussions will take place. And they already want to enter the negotiations phase.”
