The “My Step” alliance makes up the majority of the Yerevan City Council. Will it still continue to use the “there’s no beating our team” idea that Hayk Marutyan used before the elections? Aravot.am asked Hayk Marutyan after he was sworn in as mayor about this.
“That was in reference to the pre-electoral process, and it was directed towards the people who wanted to interfere with the natural election process and its transparency and justice. That would not have benefited us. The people have expressed their will,” the mayor said.
We asked him if “My Step,” since it does make up the majority, will be able to make decisions without interference as the city council did when the RPA was in power. Will an opposition be formed? Marutyan answered, “Yes, our faction is large, but I can assure you that there is such a large opposition force within the faction that sometimes I will need to ask Prosperous Armenia and Luys if the decision that I think is correct is truly the best decision. Be assured that we have no problems in terms of balance. There will be no such thing as decisions made by one person.”
