Reporters asked the Canadian and Armenian prime ministers how they would rate Armenian-Canadian business ties, and if they think it’s possible for investments to take place at a higher speed after the snap elections in Armenia. Reporters also asked if Canadian business owners consider it to be of utmost importance to open a Canadian embassy in Armenia. Pashinyan answered, “Trudeau announced his readiness in promoting Canadian investment in Armenia within the first few minutes of our conversation. That is very important. There were also Canadian business owners at the state dinner who already have investments in Armenia and they want to increase their investments. We want to create the type of environment where investments and economic activity shouldn’t be based off of the fantasies of the government or officials. We have to work on establishing standards so that everyone- the people, investors, and the government- can be convinced that no collaboration can take place that won’t benefit the public, the nation, or the state.”
The Canadian Prime Minister said, “There’s a lot of potential for investment in Armenia in controlling drinking water. This is important for Canadian organizations and Canadian Armenians.”
Regarding opening a Canadian embassy in Armenia, Justin Trudeau said that a lot of people have asked him about that. “We understand that this will be an important challenge to overcome. We envision that we will have the opportunity to discuss that alongside developing our relations. The more investments there are, the more important the issue of opening an embassy will be. Increasing the number of connections with economic business people will help that issue become a reality.
Nikol Pashinyan said that they will first build the inside of the Canadian embassy, and then they will build its walls.
