A street was named after Hrant Dink in Istanbul

October 16,2018 14:05

The members of the Istanbul City Council decided during a recent session to consider the complaints and suggestions made by citizens regarding changing the names of several streets in Istanbul.

A street was named after the editor-in-chief of the “Akos” newspaper, Hrant Dink, in the Shishli district of Istanbul. The Samanyolu street in the Meshrutiyet neighborhood will be Hrant Dink street from now on.

Other streets in Istanbul have also been named after popular figures. One of the streets was named after one of the greatest faces in Turkish literature, Yasar Kemal. Kemal, who is ethnically Kurdish, was raised in Van. It was due to his efforts in the 1950s that the destruction of the Armenian Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Akhtamar Island in Van was prevented.
