Hunan Poghosyan: ‘They are lowly people’

October 16,2018 19:07

Former deputy police chief Hunan Poghosyan is to be appointed governor of Syunik. The decision is included in the agenda for the government session.

Before the session, Poghosyan told reporters that he was waiting to be appointed to any position. “I can’t say anything regarding a specific region, but I naturally was waiting for something.” According to him, “I think that I am a supporter of the new Armenia.”

Regarding critiques of his appointment, Hunan Poghosyan said that he treats criticism normally and it’s impossible to be in any position without some criticism. “They are lowly people, so they can think that way. I serve the law, and therefore I serve the people,” the candidate for Syunik governor said in response to the observation that, according to some people’s opinions, he was a servant of the former regime.

When asked how he plans to work due to the fact that he has no experience in working with local self-governing systems, Poghosyan promised that he will try. Poghosyan considers the creation of an environment of mutual trust to be the most important issue as governor. “So that people will understand that they are the ones who control the situation.”

Taking into consideration the fact that he resigned as deputy police chief with the former regime, does this mean that he is a member of the RPA? “That is the wrong approach. I was in charge for eight years. I needed a short break. After that, I gladly accepted this offer.”
