October 19,2018 10:59

The ECHR published the verdicts regarding the legality and validity of the arrests of Grigor Voskerchyan and Masis Ayvazyan following the events of March 1st.

Lawyer Mushegh Shushanyan posted on his Facebook page, “The ECHR found that there is no justified basis for keeping Voskerchyan and Ayvazyan in custody. The government needs to pay Grigor Voskerchyan 3000 euros and Masis Ayvazyan 4500 euros in compensation.”

Masis Ayvazyan was arrested on Freedom Square when police violently dispersed peaceful protestors. He was then taken to the police station, where he was detained and charged with using violence against a government official and provoking mass disorder.

Grigor Voskerchyan was charged with conspiring to organize mass disorder and sentenced to two years of imprisonment. The National Assembly agreed to grant him amnesty and he was released.
