‘I don’t understand why Mills’ speech caused tension’: Mikyska regarding ‘occupied territories’

October 19,2018 16:07

“It’s clear that the USA’s, France’s, and Russia’s involvement in the Minsk group is larger than that of other countries’, but I don’t understand why Mills’ speech caused so much tension,” said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Armenia, Petr Mikyska, regarding former American Ambassador Richard Mills’ speech about “returning occupied territories.” He added that returning several territories is a part of the “Madrid Principles.”

Ambassador Mikyska emphasized, “The Madrid Principles need to be followed. An agreement was made based on that. It is an entire package. The question of returning territories is discussed in it.”

Mikyska also answered the question of if the Czech Republic, as a member of the European Union, will sign the Armenia-EU agreement on further collaboration (every member of the EU needs to sign it). “As it is known, the Czech Senate and government have signed the agreement, but the Chamber of Deputies has not yet. The question will be a part of our government’s agenda starting in May. The only reason why it is being postponed is due to technicalities.”
