Advisor to the Russian President, economist Sergey Glazyev thinks that Armenia needs to buy Russian guys with the Russian national currency, rubles, instead of US dollars. He told reporters at the “Vonosti-Armenia” agency that this is a highly possible scenario in the future. “It depends on when they will review the points of the gas supply agreement. It’s a technical issue.”
According to Glazyev, Russia has promoted the idea of having its national currency go forward for years, especially since there are lots of sanctions against Russia. “We can’t allow ourselves to use dollars in our economic relationships with other countries. That brings forth political risks. The ruble is slowly becoming the currency used between Russia and other countries of the EAEU.
According to the economist, Russia is not responsible for the risks associated with using foreign currency. “That also regards the euro.”
