According to the Russian “Kommersant” newspaper, former Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan, whose political career ended in the spring due to the revolution, may be included as an advisor to the heads of the Zarubezhneft company. This appointment may be a political gesture, but it may also be a result of Karapetyan’s long history working with Russian state organizations.
The newspaper mentioned particularly that Karen Karapetyan may be appointed as one of the independent heads of the organization, which is a position currently occupied by financier Hrayr Simonyan.
Neither Zarubezhneft nor the Department of State Property management have responded to any of the newspaper’s questions.
It is not clear whether Karen Karapetyan’s appointment as an advisor to the heads of the Russian organization was a political move or whether it is tied to his career in business.
“Karapetyan is well known in the Russian business industry, and so he was able to have received such an offer right away,” Kommersant’s source said.
Karapetyan’s former spokesperson Aram Araratyan told the newspaper that he does not know anything about the former prime minister’s new job and added that he is no longer able to comment on any information regarding Karapetyan.
