National Security Advisor of the USA John Bolton, during his first official visit to Yerevan, was asked by reporters if there’s a possibility of the USA reviewing the Freedom Support Act, where the US demands that no support is to be shown to Azerbaijan (including sale of weapons) and beginning to supply weapons to both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
John Bolton first said that there is no way to review the framework of the law in regards to selling weapons and that Azerbaijan purchases 80 percent of its weapons from Russia. “Armenia also purchases most of its weapons from Russia. This [sale of weapons to both sides] does not promote the resolution of the conflict.”
According to John Bolton, through selling weapons to both Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russia is given great levers of influence on both countries. “That does not bring peace. I want to also mention that us Americans believe in competition as a motivating force. Of course, our weapons are better than Russian ones.”
