Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan assured that the situation at the border right now is stable and that the ceasefire regime is mostly being adhered to. According to him, from either the Line of Contact towards the Defense Armenia or towards the borders of Armenia, there were only two gunshots fired towards Nakhichevan.
The minister visited Yerablur to pay respects to the victims of October 27th.
When asked by reporters if he believes that the new government will discover who ordered the attacks of October 27th, the minister said that everything will be uncovered because the time has come, and if there were people who ordered it, their identities will be disclosed.
According to him, Vazgen Sargsyan’s loss was irreversible. “I cannot describe the severity of what took place on October 27th. There was some sort of injustice from above, especially towards our Commander.”
On October 27, 1999, a group led by Nairi Hunanyan shot and killed members of parliament, most notably Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan and Speaker of the National Assembly Karen Demirchyan. Vazgen Sargsyan, commonly referred to as Sparapet (Commander), was an influential figure in the Artsakh Liberation War and credited with forming the independent Armenian Army. There is much controversy surrounding the tragedy and who its perpetrators were.
