National Security Advisor of the USA John Bolton, who is in Yerevan on his first official visit to Armenia, said that there is a possibility of resolving the Artsakh conflict. Reporters asked ARF faction head Armen Rustamyan if this means that Pashinyan, having the trust of the majority, has to raise the question of giving back lands after the elections. Rustamyan said that this situation is similar to the situation of the 1990s, despite the fact that every resolution offer to the conflict was prevented then because the government was focused solely on Artsakh. “Naturally, the future government can be pressured from different sides that since they have so much trust, they have to compromise on the Artsakh issue and bring an end to the conflict. This will be wrong for any government if they try to take advantage of the trust given to them, thinking that since they are trusted, they can offer the kinds of solutions that are against the interests of our nation. This problem stands in front of everyone and the political force which does not understand this will not have a long life in our country’s political arena.”
Rustamyan said that he does not think that Russia’s role decreased. Bolton understands that there are connections and meaningful issues that make Russia irreplaceable.
