Former President Robert Kocharyan, through actively returning to politics and through being willing to take on the responsibility of the opposition leader, is entering a losing game. According to Kocharyan’s latest interview, he realizes this as well. He announced that the results of the snap parliamentary elections have been predetermined. He accepted that the results of the elections will correspond to the attitudes of the majority. However, according to Kocharyan, since those decisions have been made in an “emotional state,” those decisions must be wrong.
Kocharyan accepts that Pashinyan’s government has the support of society, and soon enough, that will be reflected in the results of the elections. He also accepts that most of society is not prepared to listen to him. Therefore, announcing that he is ready to take on the role of opposition leader in this situation means that he is willing to go against the opinions of a majority of society. Although, this is normal for former authorities since they have always gone against the opinions of society.
It’s another thing that Kocharyan is doing all of this because of future plans. He has hopes that this unified euphoria will go away, and that the people will express dissatisfaction with this government, too.
