“Snap parliamentary elections will take place on December 9th,” Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters. “I think that the president will be signing a decree today,” he added, saying that there have already been agreements made.
“These elections are not for the Civil Contract party, but for the people, and the people will be the ones making the decisions,” Nikol Pashinyan said in response to reporters’ worries about holding the elections using the old Electoral Code and with the cardinal system.
“I am, of course, worried, and I think that the Electoral Code we suggested would have allowed the elections to have been more political and allowed a wider variety of political parties to be included. But I think that we will have the complete possibility of holding free and transparent elections,” Nikol Pashinyan said, using the Yerevan City Council elections as an example, which were also carried out using the old Electoral Code.
Nikol Pashinyan will not lead using the rating system. “I will be a national candidate,” he said.
In response to the question of whether business owners will be on the Civil Contract party’s ballot, the acting prime minister said, “Let business owners stay in business.”
