The Yerevan First Instance Court found the interference of the investigative committee satisfactory regarding the case of arresting former head of the investigative committee Vahagn Harutyunyan for his connection to the events of March 1st.
Vahagn Harutyunyan’s lawyer, Mihran Poghosyan, said that they have not received a decision yet. “According to the court, Vahagn Harutyunyan needs to be arrested, but we still have not received any decision and no one in Armenia knows of this decision. Meanwhile, according to the law, after the decision is published, the court must provide us with it too.”
Mihran Poghosyan said that they will be appealing the decision to the Court of Appeals. He said that Harutyunyan is currently in Moscow, Russia for medical treatment.
The Special Investigative Service announced that as a result of investigating the events that took place in Yerevan on March 1st and 2nd of 2008, it became clear that Harutyunyan, who was the head investigator of important cases at the SIS from 2007-2011, falsified evidence regarding serious crimes along with others in the investigative committee.
