‘Prepare the people for peace, which means compromise’: Manoyan’s commentary on Bolton’s implications

November 07,2018 18:32

“I think that he was simply implying what the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk group were announcing until now, which is to solve the conflict through compromise,” said head of the Armenian Cause Office, politician Giro Manoyan regarding National Security Advisor of the US John Bolton’s statement that Nikol Pashinyan may need to take critical steps in solving the Artsakh conflict after the upcoming snap parliamentary elections.

Manoyan commented further on the American official’s implication. “The two countries’ leaders need to work together with their societies to prepare for peace, which means compromise. He was implying that we should initiate steps towards making a compromise, but it is not clear how we can initiate action immediately after the elections. Bolton said that the Artsakh issue is a difficult one. In any case, I think that after the elections, the USA will pressure Armenia regarding the Artsakh issue.”

Giro Manoyan, responding to Aravot.am’s question about how according to former American Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk group Richard Hoagland, the document was not about a compromise that is commonly known as the Madrid Principles, but instead a completely different, brand new document, said, “I think that the notorious suggestions remain the same, perhaps the emphasis has changed to present something new.”
