“It’s great that there is an operative connection between the armed forces of Armenia and Azerbaijan. That is not a connection between the President and Prime Minister, as Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan presented it to be,” RPA member Vigen Sargsyan told reporters after the RPA Executive Body session.
He said that there was such a connection in the past and added, “Having such a connection during a tense period of time can help to prevent unplanned or unpredicted developments.”
Vigen Sargsyan did not wish to evaluate the policies introduced in the defense sector, because he said that’s not right for the former Minister of Defense to do.
Regarding the issue of the CSTO Secretary General, Vigen Sargsyan warned that there is a risk of losing the position. “Our authorities need to do everything possible to not allow us to lose the Secretary General position. If we concede the position on December 6th, that will mean failure. Our government made many efforts to have a Secretary General in the CSTO and to have a position in the EAEU.”
