“This is a great tragedy for me, for the ministry, and for the commanding force,” Acting Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan told reporters regarding the accident on the Goris-Kubatli highway involving a Ministry of Defense truck, which resulted in the deaths of four soldiers. He said that the ministry replenishes its supply of trucks when it is able to and according to the vehicles’ supply time limit priorities. “This issue is at the center of our attention. An investigation will clarify what happened.”
According to Davit Tonoyan, the ministry will make a legal decision regarding the accident based on the results of the service investigation. “A few days have gone by, an investigation is underway, and that is already visible. I have announced that there was a technical issue.”
Then, Davit Tonoyan clarified that it isn’t mandatory for the technical issue to have been with the truck that flipped over. The acting minister was referring to the fact that the reason for the accident could have been another technical issue. “They were experienced and prepared soldiers, and one of the soldiers who died was one of the best. The number of vehicles and the number of contract soldiers who work as drivers do not correspond. Therefore, we have to include temporary soldiers too.”
