Karen Ghazaryan, who crossed the border from the Tavush region into Azerbaijan a few months ago, who also has mental health issues and did not serve in the army, has been accused of serious crimes by Azerbaijan. “It was clear since the beginning that Azerbaijan would try to include the Armenian citizen in their theatrical presentations, first by presenting him in front of the cameras as a saboteur, but those plans were unsuccessful due to the fact that Karen Ghazaryan did not enlist in the military due to health problems,” MFA Spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan told reporters regarding Karen Ghazaryan’s case.
She said that, with the help of international organizations, the Armenian side was able to send Azerbaijan all the necessary paperwork to prove that Karen Ghazaryan has mental health issues, and thus did not enlist in the military. “However, through initiating a judicial process, Azerbaijan is trying to involve someone who has obvious mental health issues. This is a direct violation of international human rights.”
Anna Naghdalyan added that Karen Ghazaryan’s case is on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ agenda. “Appropriate actions are being carried out in order to bring him back to Armenia.”
