“The people whom they attacked are now with the authorities, you can be sure about that. They should have attacked themselves,” head of the RPA faction Vahram Baghdasaryan told reporters as he answered Aravot’s question about whether it was risky or not for the RPA to participate in the elections via that rating system, since RPA deputies were attacked during the Velvet Revolution.
Vahram Baghdasaryan said that there was already an agreement that was about having proportional elections, but since the government suddenly decided to hold elections in December, all plans got pushed back.
Regarding the fact that EU ambassador Piotr Switalski expressed sorrow that the new Electoral Code was not accepted, Vahram Baghdasaryan said: “Let Switalski be sorry that elections were organized so fast. If he expressed sorrow and interfered so that the elections would take place in May or June instead, we could have had better discussions regarding the Electoral Code and we could have had the image of being a country that takes grand steps to secure democracy on an international platform.”
