The European Year of Cultural Heritage in Armenia will be marked by another major event – the European Film Festival – which will start on 17 November. The event will give the Armenian audience a chance to watch films produced in 11 countries during the past two years.
During a press conference to launch the opening of the festival, EU Ambassador to Armenia Piotr Antoni Świtalski emphasised the objective of the European Year of Cultural Heritage to encourage better recognition of European cultural heritage and strengthen the sense of belonging to the common European space.
“Cultural heritage is a living testimony. It is the expression of our roots. The more we are aware of our roots and we preserve them, the more we are able to face diversity and change. When we are solid in our identity, we are not scared by difference but we find enrichment in it. The European Union is an example of how diversity can lead to solidarity, cohesion and unity,” the EU Ambassador said.
Film screenings will take place in Yerevan, Gyumri and Dilijan. Entrance to all screenings will be free of charge. The festival will last 10 days, until 27 November.
The 2018 festival is being organised by the EU Delegation to Armenia and the EU National Institutes of Culture Armenia Cluster. The British Council in Armenia acts as an implementing partner.
