At the moment, in the context of several issues being discussed in Armenian courts, the transparency and impartiality of the Armenian judicial system is under question. UN Special Rapporteur on Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association Clement Nyaletsossi Voule spoke about this to reporters at the UN office in Armenia.
He emphasized that there are still unfinished works from 2010. “Perhaps they assured me at the General Prosecutor’s Office that several cases are being reviewed, but I know this: Armenian citizens continue to ask questions about the fact that there are no specific results in their cases.”
Clement Nyaletsossi Voule called upon the Armenian government and judicial system to initiate steps so that the justice system in Armenia can become independent, and so that people trust the judicial authorities because of activities in the system. “That is one of the guarantors of democracy. The judicial system needs to be impartial and independent.”
