“Armenia has initiated positive steps in the democratic process, but it is now in an important intersection and needs to make critical decisions. The elections are a great opportunity to measure the country’s readiness to be on the path to true democracy,” UN Special Rapporteur on Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association Clement Nyaletsossi Voule told reporters at the UN office in Yerevan regarding the upcoming snap parliamentary elections. He recently came to Armenia after being invited by the Armenian government to report on the arena of human rights. The entire report will be published soon.
According to Clement Voule, the Armenian people’s expectations for the upcoming elections to be the best ones in Armenian history are high. “Democracy is mostly dependent on how well multiple opinions are protected with the law being at the foundation. I trust that the Armenian authorities are willing to work together with society during this important post-revolutionary period so that solutions to problems can be made systematically.”
According to Voule, “The Armenian authorities uphold the values of the revolution, which needs to reach its final goal. Armenia is on the path to democracy and upholding the law.”
