‘That will cause dissatisfaction’: Vahram Baghdasaryan regarding taxing monetary transfers

November 19,2018 19:32

The State Revenue Committee intends to tax money transfers starting in 2020. There are plans for a mechanism to use 23 percent of the profits for income tax. Head of the RPA faction Vahram Baghdasaryan told reporters, “I did not support that either during the previous administration or the current one. Money transfers have a great impact on our country. I do not want to give a history lesson of the 1990s, but we were able to have developments and stability due to transfers. We need to pay attention to that. They will cross legal boundaries. People need to have the desire to send their relatives money and they will go around legal limits. The number of transfers will have to decrease.”

Baghdasaryan said that if 70 percent of the people who protested were asked what they wanted, they would have responded that they don’t want to pay taxes. They don’t care that taxes are what helps salaries and pensions to increase. They care about their own profits. “That will cause a lot of dissatisfaction. Why does the money we send our relatives have to be taxed?”
