Ruben Mehrabyan: ‘Armenia should not take active steps to leave the CSTO’

November 21,2018 16:41

Speaking about the developments in the CSTO, expert from the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, political analyst Ruben Mehrabyan said, “What is taking place in the CSTO shows one thing: there is no unity, no security, no agreements, and no organization there. That is a club for elderly tyrants with different levels of authority, and we have seen that even gentlemanly agreements are not respected in this organization. The quota was given to Armenia at the time, not to Khachaturov, but our so-called allies tried to turn this into a grand question. I am also aware of discussions that Khachaturov should have been recalled in the beginning so that these problems would not have come about. But, regardless, these problems were supposed to come about, since our so-called allies were looking for an opportunity to show Armenia its place, since Armenia is the black sheep in the CSTO ‘zoo.’ The head of a revolution was naturally supposed to be the black sheep in a club for old tyrants.”

According to Ruben Mehrabyan, Armenia should not actively take steps to leave the CSTO, but Armenia should also no longer feel as though it is unable to take a certain step that will be a result of Armenian security interest. To summarize, Ruben Mehrabyan said, “The CSTO is not a military alliance.”
