15th century Turkmen mausoleum found in Argavand built by Armenian experts

November 23,2018 14:41

Few people know that the only Turkmen monument in the Caucasus exists in the village of Argavand near Yerevan. Its construction was ordered by Kara Koyunlu Emir Pir-Hussein and built for his father, Emir Saad. It was built using Armenian tuff stone, and is separated into three equal pieces. It is a tower with a dome-shaped top. The dome was built using burned bricks. The Arabic writing on the mausoleum states that this holy mausoleum was built in 1413 at the orders of Emir Pir-Hussein with the greatest and highest honesty as a resting place for kings to be supported from the poor and enemies. Armenia was taken over in 1405 by several Turkmen tribes, which, according to Armenian historians, lived in harmony with Armenians. The mausoleum was built by Armenian experts and it has elements of Armenian Middle Ages architecture. It was restored and remodeled in 2001 at the efforts of the Turkmen embassy in Armenia. The signs at the monument are written in Armenian and Turkmen.
