President Armen Sarkissian received today the head of the election monitoring mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) Ambassador Urszula Gacek and deputy head of mission Goran Petrov.
The head of the monitoring mission thanked President Sarkissian for the invitation to monitor the early election to the National Assembly to be held on December 9, 2018. She presented briefly the short-term and long-term activities of the monitoring mission and noted that the mission will be joined by the monitors from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The parties assessed the upcoming parliamentary elections as extremely important for the country’s future advancement.
Noting that democracy neither starts nor ends on the election day, President Sarkissian said that democracy is a constantly evolving and self-improving process which should become irreversible. He underscored the importance of the programs aimed at the strengthening of civil society and democratic institutions and highlighted cooperation with international partners and different structures.
