Over the next five years, an extra 2.5 billion dollars will be spent to satisfy the Armed Forces’ needs. That will be paid off by corrupt individuals. Acting Prime Minister and head of the My Step alliance Nikol Pashinyan announced this today. “If they can do that voluntarily, we will take that into consideration. This does not mean that this is the entirety of the money that was stolen,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
He noted that the framework for creating transitional justice bodies will demand some mechanisms from the new National Assembly. “For example, someone goes to law enforcement or announces that they allowed for this much money to be stolen, or they themselves stole money, and they are prepared to return it. What should we do in such cases? This needs to be discussed in parliament soon, and the people will also be participating.”
Pashinyan assured that all the money stolen from the people needs to be returned in its entirety and it will be used for Armenian security needs and future development. “It is impossible for us to plan anything with any corrupt individual behind the people’s backs.”
