Head of the My Step alliance and Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan spoke to reporters about the Advisor to the Russian President’s announcement that the upcoming CSTO session that was to take place on December 6th was canceled at Armenia’s request due to the upcoming elections. “My spokesperson said that Armenia did not request anything like that. Everything took place exactly the way I told reporters it did. Armenia did not go to anyone with a request or an offer,” Nikol Pashinyan assured.
He said that Armenia has its candidate for the position of CSTO Secretary General. “We continue to carefully negotiate surrounding that.” Pashinyan had difficulty saying what the Russian announcement was based off of. “I don’t know. It’s strange. We discuss all possible issues during meetings, but I don’t think that I need to discuss the advisor’s statement with the Russian President. There are more important issues.”
Armenia’s time limit as head of the CSTO has not yet been completed. However, the former Secretary-General, Yuri Khachaturov, was recalled due to being accused of violating the Constitution during the events of March 1st. “The situation surrounding the Secretary-General is not transitional. There are more serious and more important issues in the CSTO,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
