About selling Artsakh again

December 06,2018 12:42

Throughout the entire history of the Third Republic of Armenia, all members of the opposition have accused all authorities of giving up or selling Artsakh to Azerbaijan. I never thought that any of these accusations were founded. Ter-Petrossian was not preparing to give up Artsakh as many accused him of doing, particularly the Dashnaks. By the way, they now claim that they supported Robert Kocharyan’s administration in order to counter the first President’s ‘losing policies.’ It shows that they were the authorities for ten years until 2008 because Levon Ter-Petrossian was selling Artsakh in 1998. No logical discussions can surround this claim.

The second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, was also not planning to give up Artsakh, as he was accused of doing by the Pan-Armenian National Movement and others. Third President Serzh Sargsyan was also not planning to sell Artsakh, as advocates of an armed political fight claimed in particular. Now, the Acting Prime Minister is not planning to give up Artsakh, as David Shahnazaryan and other Republicans claim. I have already had the opportunity to write about how I am strictly against the theory that the final plan of the Velvet Revolution was to give Artsakh up.

Of course, the head of state can make mistakes, they can try unsuccessful plans or unfounded compromises (such as Meghri), but speaking about giving up Artsakh, whether now or in the past, is simply opposition propaganda. I trust that this accusation will also be false in regards to Armenia’s 5th, 6th, and 10th leaders. First, because a traitor cannot possibly become the leader of our country, and second, even if they do sign a document to give up Artsakh, it will not be possible to carry out.

But the fact that the opposition is pushing for unfounded accusations does not mean that the NSS or any other punishing body needs to deal with the accusers. Politicians come forward with right or wrong political accusations. The response also needs to be a political one. Not a forceful one.
