Head of the National Renaissance party’s pre-election office and press secretary Hayk Grigoryan told Aravot in an interview that the new parliament does not represent the expectations that average citizens would have.
“We think it’s a bad thing that old forces- Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia- are infiltrating parliament. We do, however, think it’s good that the RPA and ARF did not get in. It’s good that My Step will make up the majority of parliament. We can prove that the people voted freely, but it was not fair. This is because the constitution and Electoral Code had not changed, and the influence of capital on the election process had not decreased,” the National Renaissance representative said, adding that this image was mostly expected.
Regarding his own party, Hayk Grigoryan said, “We did not make any statements about how many votes we will receive, therefore we cannot record whether this was good, bad, a lot, or too little… We are satisfied with our results, and this was our first step in politics. We don’t think it was bad, although it could have been better. But taking into consideration objective circumstances, such as the short amount of time, the black-and-white fight, and Nikol Pashinyan’s arguments, we can prove that we got these results.”
Grigoryan does not think that there was low voter participation. He said that the 2.5 million figure is false, since that many people don’t live in Armenia. “It also needs to be taken into consideration how people were brought to voting stations in the past.”
