“The preparations for election day and the voting process went in accordance with the law,” Akanates (Witness) observation mission said in a statement summarizing the results of the December 9, 2018 snap parliamentary election. According to information shared by the observation mission, 63 essential violations were recorded. The mission stated that the voting process overall went peacefully and Armenian citizens had the full opportunity to carry out their voting rights.
Akanates observation mission carried out its duties in all of Armenia’s 300 voting districts. The organization had 581 observers, as well as a team of 52 outside observers, and 41 observers in the 37 district voting commissions. The outside teams visited the 503 voting stations that were outside options. Thirty lawyers and 30 cameramen from the Yerevan resolution center supported the mission.
According to the observation mission’s information, the voting and closing processes throughout the entire country went peacefully and in accordance with the law. The members of regional committees mostly followed voting procedures. Serious violations and incidents were very few. Seven cases of voting secrecy violations were recorded, as well as 15 cases of the presence of biased individuals, three cases of violence, threats, or pressure, 20 cases of violations at voting stations or from the voting commissions, 14 cases of rejections of complaints, three cases of double voting or voting for someone else, three cases of open voting, six cases of pressured voting, and six cases of an individual helping another individual vote who did not have that authority.
