‘Follow-ups not made in 102 Russian military base after Permyakov’: Lawyer regarding arrest of Russian soldier

December 12,2018 15:37

“It’s obvious that follow-ups were not made at the 102 Russian military base in Gyumri after Valery Permyakov, because it’s in the same condition it was. When tragic events took place, they are made known, but other events such as alcoholism and fights among soldiers remain hidden,” head of the Shirak region’s Human Rights Defense office named after Sakharov Seyran Martirosyan said regarding news of a Russian soldier’s arrest.

The soldier was arrested on December 3rd in the Slobodka neighborhood of Gyumri after severely beating a woman.

Seyran Martirosyan does not know details of the incident, nor does he have any information or knowledge of the consequences of the beating. He did not wish to evaluate the incident, saying that legal bodies will soon give legal evaluations.

“The Russian military bases mirrors Russian society, and not everything in Russian society is normal. We know that Russians have a tendency for alcoholism. Before this and after the murder of the Avetisyan family, the commanders of the Russian base needed to initiate special steps in order to prevent alcohol abuse among its soldiers. In the end, are we talking about military service, or about officers and soldiers being drunk?”
