‘Reason why Sasna Tsrer not elected to parliament was developments in Artsakh’: Stepan Grigoryan

December 12,2018 17:32

Politician and second-place candidate on the Sasna Tsrer list Stepan Grigoryan told Aravot that since Sasna Tsrer’s approach to developments in Artsakh was different than that of all other political forces, they were frequently opposed. He was then asked about the results of the elections. He said that it is natural in a parliamentary system for the Prime Minister to have an overwhelming majority, but it is unnatural that Armenia does not have an opposition. He noted that if Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia do not form a coalition, they will be a false opposition, and we will not have a real opposition in parliament.

When asked about why Sasna Tsrer did not make it into parliament, even though they expected to become the second force, Stepan Grigoryan said, “During gatherings, people would say that they are on our side, but the revolution is not over, so we have to vote for Nikol Pashinyan so that there can be stability. I understand, since that is how we regard stability- whomever we believe in will receive the most votes.”

He did not consider there to be lower voter participation. He thinks that the same number of people participated now as in the past, but since the former authorities stuffed votes, it seemed like there was a lot more then.
