Member of the Armenian Painters’ Union, sculptor Haghtanak Shahumyan was one of the sixteen experts in the Painters’ Union convention. He sternly criticized the union’s President, Karen Aghamyan, and the union itself.
In an interview with Aravot, Haghtanak Shahumyan said that it was not the right decision to call a convention now because people are busy with New Year’s problems. Event halls are cold, and for that reason, there were not many people present at the convention.
“I think that the convention is in a bad situation, and having haste elections will not change anything. We need to have a more serious approach in order to resurrect the convention,” Shahumyan said.
“Since there are rumors and we do not have a clear snapshot, as far as what agreements the convention has made and what the material situation of the convention is, I suggested for a five-member group to be formed so that it can study and change the rules over one or two months. They can send that all to people and a new convention can be formed,” the artist said.
