“There is no corruption in Armenia and there will never be any. If there is systematic corruption in Armenia and we do nothing against it, then I have no right to work in the National Security Service. Maybe there will be instances where adventurers try to escape, but we will catch them,” head of the NSS Artur Vanetsyan said during a press conference.
He noted that a police officer had been arrested a few days ago, but no one had spoken about that. State Revenue Committee workers were also arrested. Speaking about NSS workers, Vanetsyan said that they don’t want to frame people for something. Being objective is what’s most important. Then he remembered that when he first came to the NSS, Felix Tsolakyan gave him advice. “He told me one thing: Artur, when you sign the paper, you aren’t just signing a paper. That’s someone’s fate. You need to be even more objective and attentive.”
Speaking about his statement regarding Robert Kocharyan owning Congress due to bribes, Vanetsyan said that he formulated his statement incorrectly. “I should not have used the word bribes, I should have said that he got the Congress hotel through illegal means, and a criminal case was opened for money laundering. Sedrak Kocharyan was invited to the NSS investigative department, where he was interrogated as a witness. The necessary events took place and we will receive information soon. As of now, no one is being accused.”
