Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer Hayk Alumyan told reporters that the heads of the National Security Service and the Special Investigative Service occasionally make statements in connection to Kocharyan that have the intention of making society emotional. Robert Kocharyan was accused of violating the Armenian constitution. Alumyan assured that it will soon be difficult for those officials to hid the truth, and then he announced one argument. Kocharyan is accused of violating article 300, point 1 of the Criminal Code (violating the constitution), but this did not exist in 2008.
“They are using article 300.1 against Kocharyan now, but that should not deteriorate the accused’s condition. We are saying that it is deteriorating his condition, but the accusers don’t think so. As a counterargument, I will say that, for instance, Alexander Arzumanyan was accused of violating article 300 during the events of March 1st. He was not then accused again of violating 300.1 because the judge believed that this article deteriorated the accused’s condition. That is why the accusers refused to accuse him of that, because compared to the previous article, this one deteriorated his condition. But it seems that in Kocharyan’s case, it does not,” Hayk Alumyan explained.
He published the names of the lawyers who rejected the accusation: Koryun Piloyan, H. Sargsyan, and L. Tadevosyan. “The last judge is currently the head of the Armenian Court of Cassation’s criminal chamber. How are we supposed to understand these double standards being enforced on Robert Kocharyan? The law is enforced on one person in one way, and in another way on another person. This means that there is an issue of revenge. I haven’t made such a statement this whole time, but now I will say that it is political persecution when two people are treated differently by the law for violating the same article.”
