Garo Yeghnukian to sue the National Security Service for private recordings and Police Chief for ‘cutting down Christmas trees’

December 24,2018 17:39

Garo Yeghnukian, who has been accused of committing several crimes as part of the Sasna Tsrer group that took over a police regiment in 2016, has sued the National Security Service and the police for illegally listening to his private conversations. According to Yeghnukian, the NSS and police have violated rights guaranteed by the Armenian constitution and international law regarding personal and familial privacy.

“Until 2016, I had doubts that my conversations were being listened to. But I could not prove it. These conversations were then used against me during the case surrounding Sasna Tsrer. These were kept illegally to be used against me,” Karo Yeghnukian said.

Garo Yeghnukian also said that he has filed a lawsuit against Police Chief Valery Osipyan for the notorious “Christmas tree incident” on Freedom Square on New Year’s in 2015. “Valery Osipyan personally tore down my Christmas tree. I will demand 12,000 AMD compensation for the Christmas tree and for my cardboard wand. I was Santa Claus.”
