Several Diasporan Armenian figures are protesting by the Ministry of Diaspora building due to the fact that they are upset with the government’s decision to dissolve the Ministry of Diaspora. “The Ministry of Diaspora is the ring that showed Iraqi Armenians the correct path and helped us to solve problems. I will not say that all issues have been resolved, by the Ministry of Diaspora plays a large role. I have collaborated with the ministry over these past ten years and I saw how greatly it benefited Iraqi Armenians both in Armenia and in Iraq,” representative of the Iraqi Armenian community Varand Petrosyan told reporters.
He does not agree with opinions that the Ministry of Diaspora can work as a committee within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not have diplomatic ties with all countries, but the Ministry of Diaspora has connections with all Armenian communities across the world.”
Petrosyan read a letter from Iraq Armenians, where they called upon Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to review the decision to dissolve the Ministry of Diaspora. “This government does not only belong to the Republic of Armenia, but to the whole diaspora as well. We demand a review.”
