The plan to place limits on local taxes in 2019 was voted upon during the Yerevan City Council session and accepted in a very tense environment. This plan seeks to raise several taxes, which has caused disappointment from businesses.
Local taxes on businesses that are smaller than 20 square meters will increase by 6000 AMD, and those that are 20 square meters or larger will increase by 1000 AMD. The amount for 2018 is 15000 AMD and 25000 AMD respectively. Local taxes for permission to sell fuel or gas will rise by 250,000 AMD, going from 350,000 AMD to 600,000 AMD.
Mayor Hayk Marutyan said that these changes will not be noticeable by large businesses, and their effect on small and medium-sized businesses will be very small.
The members of the city council belonging to Bright Armenia and Prosperous Armenia parties voted against the plan, but My Step voted in favor. The plan was accepted with 51 votes.
