‘Arayik was against surrender, he said ‘I won’t surrender until Jiro gives the order’: Sasna Tsrer member Edgar Soghomonyan

December 26,2018 16:39

During the latest court session of the Sasna Tsrer case, Edgar Soghomonyan, who was accused of being a part of the operation to take over the police regiment in 2016, was to give a testimony. However, Soghomonyan told Judge Mesrop Makyan that he was going to use his right to not give a testimony.

In previous testimonies, Edgar Soghomonyan said that fellow Sasna Tsrer member Armen Lambaryan had convinced him to go to Yerevan during the takeover. “They took me… they said that we have to go and free Jirair Sefilian. Armen Bilyan had fired a shot once near the restrooms. Then, a man with his hand on his shoulder came out. I learned later that he was a policeman.”

Regarding the moment that they laid down weapons, Edgar Soghomonyan said that he was happy to surrender because he had wanted to escape. “Varuzhan Avetisyan told Arayik Khandoyan that the right thing to do was to surrender, but Arayik was against it. He said that he won’t surrender until Jiro gives the order.”
