Tumanyan’s spirit in English

December 26,2018 21:12

The book exhibition of Tumanyan’s new publications took place at the Khnko-Apor library. Students from school number 122 presented pieces from the “Tumanyan to the Children of the World” publication featuring poems and ballads. The book was published in Armenian and English.

The book exhibition proved once again that it is necessary to continue to publish Armenian classics in other languages so that they can become available to foreign readers. But such publications with both languages at once are unique initiatives, especially for those learning English.

This and other such events are important in deciding how to celebrate the 150th birthday of the Great Armenian Poet. “We should not forget that the further we get from Tumanyan, the more we need him, because it will be difficult to overcome the challenges of the 21st century if we do not have Tumanyan’s wisdom. Tumanyan’s granddaughter, Irma Safrazabekyan, played a huge role in supporting this project,” head of the publication house Mkrtich Karapetyan said.

“I trust that we will need to dedicate all of 2019 to Tumanyan and publicize as many of his works as possible,” said Doctor of Philology and Professor Sergo Yeritsyan. “It is not a secret that Tumanyan needs to be discovered, analyzed, and presented more often.”

It was also emphasized during the book exhibition that “Edit Print” will be handing out books on Tumanyan’s 150th birthday, February 19th.
