Newly-elected Bright Armenia deputy: ‘Our and Civil Contract’s dissenting opinions led to more effective solutions before’

January 09,2019 15:39

Sargis Aleksanyan is a newly-elected deputy of the Bright Armenia political party. He was elected from the Tavush region and is the party’s Tavush region council leader. Aravot asked him in an interview what issues he will seek to resolve through his work in parliament. “It has not yet been decided who will be a part of which committee, but I give preference to regional government, agriculture, environmentalism, state security and defense, health, and social problems. Perhaps I listed too many, but I see the necessity of my own involvement and work in any of those sectors,” Sargis Aleksanyan said.

He considers issues surrounding social and security problems in the border communities to be one of the biggest problems. According to Aleksanyan, the state needs to give special support. “I will use legal initiatives to promote development in the regions, interruption of increasing communities, and to return to the previous state. I think that the process of increasing the size of communities should only be done at the will of their residents via a referendum.”

Regarding his party being the opposition in the new parliament, Aleksanyan said, “Bright Armenia is one of the few political forces that has a clean history, professional skills, experience, a clear purpose of serving the country, and deeply researched plans to help our country overcome all its difficulties. And, we have the people’s trust, which is most important. We will be using all our efforts for that vote.”

Sargis Aleksanyan said, “We went through difficult times as part of the Yelq alliance with the Civil Contract party, and our dissenting opinions led to more effective solutions. This took place during private discussions, but now we will hold discussions publicly, which the public will only benefit from. There have already been noted differences in our opinions on several issues. We have notably fewer deputies, but we will fill those spots with creative thoughts and spirits.”
