The head of the Bright Armenia political party, Edmon Marukyan, finds that it does not matter which of the opposition parties has more mandates. The deputies need to decide through a closed vote whom they wish to see become the Vice Speaker.
Edmon Marukyan, during the ceremony for issuing mandates, said that it is unacceptable for a Vice Speaker to be chosen due to certain agreements. “The constitution says that the speaker needs to be elected, not that we need to continue traditions that come from the Republican era.”
Responding to reporters’ observations that Nikol Pashinyan’s party, My Step, is already seeking to vote for a Prosperous Armenia deputy, Marukyan said, “Even if there is such a decision that has not been officially announced, we are under the impression that our candidate for Vice Speaker is a better option.” He said that they do not have any agreements with Pashinyan or My Step regarding this. “We do not make decisions backstage.”
