Political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan told reporters regarding the situation in Kazakhstan, “We cannot say that there is anti-Armenian sentiment in Kazakhstan right now. People in Kazakhstan are greatly disappointed in their government, which they frequently voice through protests. What is frequently labeled as being against Armenians is actually a show of dissatisfaction with the authorities, the government, and with the police.”
Regarding the incident in Karaganda, “What took place on New Year’s is not an ethnic issue. It was an incident that people of different ethnic groups took place in. I will not go into legal issues. What took place here was a reaction. The Azeri reaction was normal because they always try to act against Armenians. Regarding the Kazakh government’s position, I think that they responded with dignity.”
