Recently, the parents of Iosif Aghanjanov, who was murdered in 1996, wrote a letter claiming that Mher Yenokyan’s wife, who currently works as the spokesperson for the State Control Service, had an affect on the fact that the Ministry of Justice chose to release Mher Yenokyan, who was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of their son.
Mher Yenokyan’s wife, Zaruhi Mezhlumyan, who works as an activist, lawyer, and journalist, told reporters that she only found out about the committee’s decision from the Aghajanov family. “There was an illegal release of information regarding the committee’s decision. There was an invasion of privacy. According to the law, the affected side, which in this case is the Aghajanov family, does not have the right to be informed about the processes the committee goes through. It is possible that some members of the committee who were representatives of the former government had connections with them…”
Then, Zaruhi Mezhlumyan said that the Aghajanovs’ claim that she pressured the committee to make their decision is not true. She added that she honors the memory of Iosif Aghajanov, but she does not believe his family due to the fact that she knows all the details of the criminal case since she has worked as a journalist for 24 years.
All of this, according to Mezhlumyan, is unacceptable. However, this is all being used for political purposes to create biased opinions in society. “Mher Yenokyan’s case is a prime example of how not to investigate a criminal case.”
Mher Yenokyan does not believe that he is guilty and has announced that he tried to take the knife from Aram Harutyunyan.
