Head of the “Asparez” journalists’ club in Gyumri Levon Barseghyan told reporters during a protest in honor of the memory of the Avetisyan family and Julieta Ghukasyan that many people have begun to join the protests. “The Avetisyans’ murderer, Permyakov, and Julieta Ghazaryan’s murderer came from the Russian 102 military base. We call upon Russian authorities to keep their beasts in cages. We aren’t responsible for them,” Barseghyan said. The demands are also written in Russian, and will be displayed in several places.
According to Barseghyan, the protesters are demanding for the one accused of murdering Julieta Ghazaryan and other possible accomplices to be handed over to Armenian authorities and investigated. “Those accused of murdering an Armenian citizen must be under the supervision of Armenian authorities, especially since the crime took place outside of the military base.”
The organizers of the protests also demand that Russian soldiers be informed about the Armenian people and their nation, as well as the place where they will be living. “If someone comes to our country to carry out their service, they must understand what sorts of people live here, what kind of country this is, and this country’s history, instead of using our people as guinea pigs,” Barseghyan said.
Barseghyan emphasized again, “Those accused need to be handed over to Armenian authorities. We believe that an effective investigation can only take place if the accused and possible accomplices are investigated by Armenian authorities.”
