Argishti Mekhakyan does not believe protests against Manvel Grigoryan have been directed

January 14,2019 16:33

Protests continue in Ejmiatsin against the release of Manvel Grigoryan. Deputy of the My Step alliance from the Armavir region, Argishti Mekhakyan, periodically meets with the organizers of the protests.

The organizers of the protests accused Mekhakyan of being Manvel Grigoryan’s godson. Argishti Mekhakyan responded, “Manvel Grigoryan simply fought alongside my father in combat. Nothing more. I pity the fact that protests which once had a clear demand now are changing their context and making accusations that are far from the truth.”

Aravot asked him if he believed, from his meetings with protesters, that the protests were directed, as some rumors claim. Argishti Mekhakyan responded that he does not have such information, and he did not even attempt to directly ask the protesters such a question. He only said that there were protesters who actively participated in the revolution, and he does not believe that such individuals can be ordered around.

Mekhakyan abstained from responding to the question of whether he thought that Manvel Grigoryan’s deterrence method should be changed or not. “That is for the authorities to decide,” he said.

By the way, Argishti Mekhakyan was the deputy mayor of Ejmiatsin after the revolution. After he was elected deputy, the position became open. Mekhakyan said that he does not know who will be appointed to that position.
