“I support the family of my teacher, Mikhayil Aghajanov. I am here to honor the memory of my childhood friend, Iosif Aghajanov. And I came here with my family to emphasize that such evil- kidnapping and then slaughtering a child- is unforgivable,” President of the Yerevan State Medical University named after M. Heratsi, former Minister of Health Armen Muradyan told reporters during protests against the amnesty granted to Mher Yenokyan.
News spread over the past few days that the Ministry of Justice amnesty committee gave a positive response to Mher Yenokyan’s petition in 1996. Mher Yenokyan was sentenced to death for Iosif Aghajanov’s death. The President still needs to sign the petition after the Prime Minister presents it.
The father of Iosif Aghajanov, Mikayil Aghajanov, was also present at the protests.
Armen Muradyan noted that, as a close friend of the family and as a doctor, he will sign doctors’ petitions to not grant Mher Yenokyan freedom. Regarding rumors that disagreements will arise among professors about Mher Yenokyan due to the fact that Mikayil Aghajanov teaches at YSMU, Armen Muradyan responded, “I do not believe it. The professors here have created doctors. They stand beside their professors, and it’s easy to understand them.”
Armen Muradyan also announced that accusations and insults about Iosif Aghajanov’s tragedy are unacceptable.
