Judge Artur Mkrtchyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction led a court session regarding the lengthening of second President Robert Kocharyan’s sentence by two months. After an almost four hour examination, the court will continue its work on January 17th at 11. One of Robert Kocharyan’s lawyers, Hayk Alumyan, told reporters that the defendant side presented materials against the investigator’s interference, and also presented videos from the protests that took place before March 1st.
According to Alumyan, in one of the videos, an individual standing among the protesters dressed in civilian clothing fired towards the police. The defendant has been informed that this video has long since been in the possession of the investigators. The video was already sent for examination. Kocharyan’s lawyers will continue to present materials.
Second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan has been accused of violating the Armenian Constitution during the events of March 1st.
Mass protests were held in Armenia, after presidential elections on 2008. The protests were organized by the supporters of the First President of Republic of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian. During the protest held on March 1, 2008, clashes broke out between police and protesters. President Robert Kocharyan declared a 20-day state of emergency.
